Class Of 2008- (4) Not George Gently! Not George Ezra! Simply George Esworthy!

Senior School Sixth Form

As we await tomorrow's final day fun activity planned by our Class of 2008 and 6th Form team, our series of news about just a few of the stars of the U6th focuses on the type of student that every year group needs, cherishes and is very proud of.

Amid a number of highly talented and immensely altruistic pupils in the Class of 2008, the Newsroom is confident staff and peers will agree that today's impressive all-rounder has stood out across so many aspects of Bablake life.

Every sports team needs dedicated squad members who are reliable, talented, competitive and mustard keen for training sessions as well as match days. A Level students need much support and, while a supportive form or subject tutor will always be available, the advice from a peer is always invaluable and often accessible at any time of the day.

Younger pupils too look for role models in our elder pupils and members of staff often learn just as much education from the engaging young minds in their classroom as the pupils do from their studies.

The music industry saw George Ezra rise to fame in 2014-15, while ITV drama currently trends when the episodes of George Gently air. However, Bablake has its own George, who is similarly impressive, George Esworthy!

As a senior prefect, victorious Chess captain and individual trophy winner, 1st XV rugby player, librarian, emerging theatre technician, impressive CREST scientist and potential University of Leicester medic, George has been a young man who has shown immense initiative and been an absolute tower of strength to staff, his peers and younger pupils.

Mrs Sarah Harris (Director of Marketing and Admissions) commented: 'George was an immense support on Entrance Exam day in particular, helping a hesitant young candidate so calmly and kindly. I was delighted to receive a phone call soon after expressing thanks from this person's family for George's caring behaviour.'

Mrs Julie Needham (Head Librarian) said: 'Everyone in the Library will miss George. Hard-working, self-effacing and very intelligent, he has all the personal qualities you would like to see in a Bablake pupil. What has impressed me most has been how much time he has always had to help other pupils.'

Mr Mark Woodward (Head of Careers) agreed, adding: 'George is most definitely one of Head of 6th Form Mrs Alison Tumber's Bablake heroes. What is so encouraging is that George is not alone in showing this vast portfolio of skills and character; many others in his year group have demonstrated this or will go on to display it beyond Bablake. Employers and academic institutions once again are in for a treat when they encounter the next Bablake generation!'

Thank you, George, and thank you to the Class of 2008 for everything you have done for the school. We eagerly await news of impressive achievement in the years to come.
