Home and Away- (6) CREST

Senior School Trips & Visits

While many of our pupils have enjoyed trips abroad, a number of our Lower Sixth students have dedicated time during the summer break to furthering their studies in the quest of a Gold CREST award.

While some of the students have been working for this prestigious award with placements at a hospital or GP's surgery, Chemistry teacher Mr Inderpal Kalsi has accompanied a small group of pupils to the University of Warwick daily for two weeks. The pupils are liaising with various academic departments, so will be able to develop a great number of skills, such as practical techniques, data analysis, problem solving, communication and teamwork.

All pupils involved with CREST will need to produce a written report, which is then assessed. The topics for these projects cover an excellent range including biology, chemistry, physics, medicine and chemical engineering: e.g. Arun Nahar and Chris Tuttle are studying metal organic frameworks, Georgia Gunson and Eva Klesnik-Edwards are investigating rotaxanes (mechanically-interlocked molecular architectures), and Ali-Hamzah Ahmed and Madison Cotteret are investigating particle physics.

We look forward to seeing the final projects next term, as well as hearing more about the group of pupils completing an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification).
