Bablake Lions Roar In Vain

Senior School Sport

The Bablake Lions showed plenty of spirit and grit in the block fixture versus Leicester Grammar School without any reward in the 'games won' column yesterday, as all six sides lost.

A crisp morning certainly at our Games Field provided fine conditions for good flowing rugby and those watching the 1st XV fixture saw a Bablake team, weakened by a few absences, struggle initially to defend against an innovative, strongly built Leicester Grammar School side. Heads did not drop though and Bablake's defence grew stronger over the game and inroads were definitely made in a very strong second half performance.

James Moffitt was the sole try scorer, with a super break from his goal line late in the first half, but Greg Checklin, Danny O'Malley and captain Liam Meechan all had the LGS try line in their sights later in the game. The fixture was an excellent challenge for our young 1st XV and there will be fewer stronger sides met this season, so the experience will have been invaluable. 1st XV coach Mr Rob Burdett also remained very positive about certain aspects of the performance, seeing much promise for forthcoming matches.

The Bablake paparazzi captured the 1st XV fixture and photographs may be viewed via this link.
