Arts Award Thriving

Music Senior School

A record number of Shells and Second years have undertaken their Bronze Arts Award this term, reports Mrs Cathy Scott-Burt (Music and Head of Enrichment).

Shell Music scholars Micheal Adeyemi, Madeleine Gallon and James McCook have been joined by Namuum Batkhishig, Charlotte Bull, Keira Burton, Jasmine Harrison, Maya Koria, Crystal Ng, Georgie Paterson, Giselle Pinto, Ellen Richardson, Anna Shirley and Bablake Junior Year 6 pupil Harry Scott-Burt.

All the children have taken part in an Arts activity - dance, drama, music and visual art this time - reviewed a performance and shared the creative impact of it with the group, researched someone who inspires their own artistic creativity and presented a workshop sharing their talents with Year 4 children from our Junior School.

The workshops earlier this month were great fun and we offered our younger pupils the chance to take part in a dance workshop, a keyboard lesson, a string, brass or woodwind workshop or to do some cartoon drawing. The workshops were supervised by Mr Steve Cooper (Music) and the Junior School’s Arts Award Advisor Mrs Marion Mason, as well as by Mrs Cathy Scott-Burt, who runs Arts Award in the Senior school.

There were so many lovely comments from the children taking part and the teachers watching were very impressed with our pupils’ ability to share their skills in a really engaging and empathetic way with the younger ones.

We will report on the Silver Award later this week.
