Annual Mike Hibbert Memorial Shield Contest Approaches

Sport Senior School

The annual contest for the Mike Hibbert Memorial Shield will be held on Wednesday 10th February at Coventry RFC's Butts Park Arena.

Bablake's youthful 1st XV will be looking to retain its grip on the trophy, although a resurgent King Henry VIII team, coached by Old Wheatleyans RFC 'guru' Jonathan Fitt, will be keen to cap a successful season with a win to add to victories in 2007 and 2012.

Deputy Head Mr Chris Seeley said: "We want to make this a very special event not only in the rugby careers of those who will play in front of a crowd of about 1000, but also for as many members of the school community as possible. Admission, charged at the turnstiles, will be priced at £2 for adults and £1 for anyone aged 18 or under.

If you wish to park at the ground, please bear in mind that Coventry RFC will charge £3 per car. However, there is plenty of free parking on nearby roads. If you do arrive early, you will be able to purchase drinks at the club, and should you be tempted by some fast food, the burger vans will also be open for business."

This fixture, which kicks off at 7pm, is contested each year in honour of Mike Hibbert, a former pupil who played for over 30 years for the Old Wheatleyans RFC and was a key member of the Coventry Schools Former Pupils Association committee.
