Festive Celebrations (2) Gingerbread Houses Galore

Senior School Food and Textiles

If you wondered why Assistant Head Mr Jim Burns and Head of Careers Mr Mark Woodward were first in the queue of volunteers to sign up for cover lessons in the Food and Textiles department towards the end of term, you may find the answer in today's news item!

Over the last couple of weeks of our Autumn term, many of our pupils were returning home with outstanding Gingerbread House creations, made in their Food lessons. Naturally the creative process saw many prototypes and an overflow of sweet decorations available for teachers and pupils to test, thus the eager attention of the more gluttonous educators!

Mrs Joanne Solomon, teacher in charge of Food, commented: "All pupils really enjoyed being festively creative and for our GCSE groups, these lessons were a great reward for the excellent work ethic shown throughout the term as well as bringing some brief light relief from coursework tasks.

The individuality of all the gingerbread houses really stood out. Every pupil enjoyed the practical challenges involved in planning the engineering work with great precision and such immense care, before working methodically at building the houses and then adding a final creative flourish to the design and surrounds."

The outstanding products heading home, professional wrapped by Mrs Solomon, would definitely not have looked out of place on display in local shopping centres and retailers. There is also no doubt these products will be very much enjoyed by the families fortunate to have received them as festive gifts!
