A Heated Debate In Enrichment

Senior School Enrichment

The first half of the Spring term for the Upper Sixth was completed with a heated debate in Enrichment.

Our traditional 'Question Time', chaired again by Mr Mark Woodward (Head of Careers), was able to reflect on the dramatic news and events of 2016, which offered plenty of scope for a frank exchange of views.

On the panel this year were former pupils Beckie Carter (studying Economics with Politics at Cardiff University) and Chris Starkey (teaching History and Politics at Ampleforth College), both of whom were actively involved with political debate and public-speaking while at Bablake. Joining them as Bablake's equivalent of the BBC's Jeremy Vine/ Jon Snow was History teacher Mr Jeff Grantham, on hand to explain constitutional matters and the concept of 'post-truth/ fake news' as well as offer advice on where to find political information and satire.

Brexit and the recent US election dominated the hour's discussion and it was excellent to witness plenty of spirited, informed debate from the floor.
