Young Global Scholar

Senior School Junior School

Talvin Bath, Lower Sixth, will be participating in the Young Global Scholar program taking place this summer at Yale University in Connecticut, USA.

Yale Young Global Scholars (YYGS) is an academic summer enrichment program for outstanding students from around the world. Students from over 125 countries participate in one of five interdisciplinary courses, allowing participants to immerse themselves in a global learning community over a two-week period.

Talvin found the application process to be a useful activity as there were many similarities to the university application process. He said, "The process was made up of a few essays about why I wanted to apply and why I'd be a good fit. I looked into the program originally on a teacher recommendation and it's been a great experience so far."

Each course consists of seminars, lectures and a research project - all of which focus on interdisciplinary learning. Talvin will be involved in the Politics, Law, and Economics III program, an area of specific interest for him, but he's looking at the opportunity from a much wider perspective. He says, "My interest stemmed from a curiosity towards studying abroad, I'm treating the programme as a sort of taster for whether I decide to go to university in the states. My main reason for this is definitely the freedom in the US curriculum, being able to study with a wider breadth of subjects and courses than what is possible in the UK, where we have to choose a single course. I'm really looking forward to it."

Good luck Talvin - have a wonderful time abroad this summer!
