Harry's Musical Summer

Junior School Music

Junior School pupil Harry took part in a brilliant week long course with the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain this summer;

He is a member of the U11 orchestra this year and had a great time playing, as well as catching up with some friends from last year's Training Orchestra course. He also used the experience as evidence towards his Bronze Arts Award, and he will be the youngest Bablake pupil ever to complete this course when the Award is submitted at Christmas.

Harry received some lovely comments from the cello tutor on the course as part of his evidence, and was thrilled to have Roger Clarkson, NCO's Director of Music, as his conductor this year. The final concert, which parents could attend, included a stirring performance of Beethoven's 5th symphony as well as some string music and some lighter repertoire of show songs.

Harry said: 'NCO was absolutely amazing again! I loved catching up with some of the cellos from last year, as well as making new friends and the music was great. My favourite piece was the Beethoven, it was so exciting to be in the middle of such a famous piece of music I've only ever heard before.'

The Scott-Burt family is very grateful to the Benslow Instrumental Loan scheme, a charity that supports young musicians by providing them with instruments they could not otherwise afford, for the ongoing loan of Harry's beautiful cello and it was lovely to see in the NCO programme that he was a recipient of the scheme.
