Laura Bates Leads A Thought-Provoking Enrichment Session

Senior School Enrichment

Last week we were once again privileged to host Laura Bates, writer and founder of the Everyday Sexism Project, as she visited Bablake for the fourth year running to deliver a talk during our U6th Enrichment session.

As always, Laura's eloquence and compelling rhetoric drew many plaudits from staff and pupils alike as she explained how the Everyday Sexism Project came about, gave clear examples of unwarranted prejudice and explained how and why everyone could stand up and decry sexism and all forms of prejudice in modern society. Stressing the links between sexism and other prejudices, as well showing how society's ills impact on everyone, gave the audience much food for thought. The questions that followed her talk were very supportive and progressive.

It was excellent to hear Laura praise the excellent work of many of our U6th, who instigated the Feminist Society last year, in championing her cause within Bablake. She also confirmed these pupils should recognise the huge impact of their hard work and determination.

Earlier Laura had joined a meeting of Bablake's Feminist Society where former pupil Sarah Brown (formerly Thompson) had been invited by Mr Mark Woodward (Head of Careers) to talk to pupils about her work as a trustee of the White Ribbon Campaign. We look forward to hearing more about proposed links between this charity and Bablake.
