Rocket Science Experiment - Planting the Seeds!

Junior School Science

Pre Prep Pupils enjoyed planting seeds under experiment conditions as part of the RHS Rocket Science project.

?The children were sent a blue packet of seeds and a red packet of seeds - one of which held seeds that have been in space for several months with Tim Peake, the other identical seeds that have stayed on earth. Now the two packets of 100 seeds have been planted, Pre Prep and BJS pupils will be able to compare how the seeds grow. The project also comes with a collection of fun and inspiring curriculum linked teaching resources and posters, tailored according to the age of pupils.

Using these resources, we hope that pupils will embark on a voyage of discovery to see what growing plants in space can teach us about life on Earth and whether we can sustain human life in space through the production of our own food. We will input our results into a national online database so that results can be compared across all schools involved in the project. The project is aimed at inspiring pupils to think scientifically and helping them to see the potential of future careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) and Horticulture.
