Reading Week Winners In Design Technology

Senior School Curriculum

Once again during our annual Bablake Reading Week, the Design Technology department led the way with a competition calling upon research skills.

Using a range of media, Shell and Second year pupils were asked to research two different design movements and then use their design analysis skills. This year the department chose Memphis for the Shells and Bauhaus for the Second Years. Given only one hour, pupils had to establish key factors in each movement and then design, on paper, an object that included those style features.

After much deliberation between Messrs Nicholson, West and Williams, the 2016 winner for the Shells was declared to be Jasmine Print, who had presented an outstanding interpretation of a Memphis-styled cupboard. Maya Koria was chosen as Second Year winner; she stunned the judges with a superb Bauhaus-inspired compact wardrobe.

Well done to all the pupils on their excellent research and authentic, inspirational designs.
