'Rainbow Cinderella' Invitation

Senior School Harrismith

You are warmly invited to a fantastic evening of music and drama, directed by Mr Ian Appleby. The show will take place on Friday 17th February in our EDM Theatre to help fundraise for our South African partner school Harrismith Secondary.

Regular rehearsals for 'Rainbow Cinderella' have been taking place in Bablake, under the watchful eye of Head of History Mrs Helen Skilton, with a group of actors drawn from across the school. The production will also replicate the show directed at Harrismith Secondary School by former Head of English and Drama Mr Ian Appleby in the summer of 2015.

Bablake's version of 'Rainbow Cinderella' will raise awareness of the partnership between both schools as well as offer a glimpse of the excellent work Mr Appleby does in Harrismith each year producing a play from scratch in just a few days - an initiative Bablake helps fund via a contribution towards the cost of costumes.

The entertainment on 17th February will consist of a short presentation about Harrismith, followed by the performance of 'Rainbow Cinderella', which is a simplified version of the Cinderella fairytale, interspersed with popular songs and dancing that carry the action forward.

If you have a secret penchant for popular music from the late 70s and early 80s, especially well known classics from 'Grease', you will be in for a super evening. The production also showcases a few older numbers and forgotten classics, such as ELO's 'Hold on Tight' and a real guilty pleasure, Scott Fitzgerald and Yvonne Keeley's lilting love song 'If I Had Words'!

If you are yet to be persuaded that this will be a charity night to rival recent shows like 'Love Africa! Live!', 'A Night at the Oscars' or 'Back to the 50s', we can promise a cameo performance from the 'Bablake Staffettes', whom we are led to believe will include Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Alison Tumber, fresh from her 2016 run in '9 to 5' and, it is rumoured, Headmaster Mr John Watson. We believe there is still space for further recruits for this supergroup!

Our 'non-uniform' morning at the end of last term and the 'Winter Social' for our 2nd and 3rd years, excellently organised by some of our Fifth year pupils, have helped raise valuable funds for Harrismith, but 'Rainbow Cinderella' will be our main fundraiser this year, so please support the event if you can!

Tickets will cost £5 via Mrs Helen Billings (Assistant Head of Sixth Form), while, on the evening, there will be refreshments for sale with a South African theme as well as a prize raffle.

Ticket designed by Miss Alexandria Hingley.
