Departments Prepare For Cross Curricular Trip

Trips & Visits

During the first week of Half Term, our Design Technology, Food and Textiles, and Spanish departments are leading a combined trip to Barcelona and excitement about the visit is mounting.

Mrs Maria O'Neill (Head of Spanish and Charity Coordinator) has joined forces with Mr Chris West (Head of DT) to fuel the pupils' excitement. She explained as follows: 'Those going on the visit have been preparing 3D models related to Barcelona. Before making the pieces, all of them enjoyed combined DT and Spanish lessons to help inspire a link for their creations.

Everyone produced excellent work, with two pupils even choosing the topic of food and producing a video. We are all looking forward to the cookery lesson that is planned and the tapas bar visit is bound to be a highlight too.'

Mr Chris West added: 'I was impressed to see pupils putting their DT skills to use in another subject. Everything was completed in just three single lessons- around 90 minutes. It was not only good to see pupils working together but also to be presented with such a wide and diverse group of projects ranging from the F1 circuit to pizza, and Camp Nou to a rollercoaster from Port Aventura.

The trip will give pupils a chance to experience their chosen projects in real life, as our itinerary includes scheduled visits to places such as Port Aventura, Camp Nou (home to Barcelona FC) and Formula 1 track Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.' On the last visit to Barcelona, we understand the coach conveying our group was given special permission to complete a lap of the F1 circuit, and one evening there was the opportunity for a flamenco lesson. We look forward to receiving photographs of the staff participation in the latter activity especially!

Reminder:

Please note there is a tour meeting being held for parents tonight, at 7pm in the EDM.
