Wheatley Wins The Final Round Of Our House Public Speaking

House Events

Yesterday lunchtime Headmaster Mr John Watson, Deputy Head (Pastoral) Mrs Gill Press and Director of Marketing and Admissions Mrs Sarah Harris judged Wheatley to be deserving winners of the Senior House Public Speaking competition with Fairfax second, Crow third and Bayley fourth.

Our Senior pupils presented the views of their allocated political party on Europe and Immigration. Bayley began the session with 5th year pupil Georgia Kelsey confidently leading the presentation on the Green party's views. Crow's speeches for the Liberal Democrats were presented by Tom Betts, Roisin Bowe and Emily White, while Matt Rowlands led the Fairfax team. However Wheatley's trio of Matthew Hayhurst, Lantian Pinkney and Emily Robinson were the most convincing debaters of the day, setting out the Labour party's policies on the issues. This trio also fielded questions from the floor with humour and direct confidence.

With the three rounds complete, it was possible for Chair Mr Gary Park (English) to announce the overall winner. Each House, bar Fairfax, had won a round of the competition, however it was Fairfax's consistent placing that won the overall crown by just two points from Bayley and Crow in joint second place.

We thank Mr Park and Mr Malcolm Wyatt (Theatre and Events Technician) for their time spent on this competition and look forward to the 2016 Cultural House competition which will be Drama!
