Studying The Festival Of Lights

Archive Archive

Recently our 2nd year forms have been studying Diwali, the Festival of Lights, in Religious Studies. Yasmin Hobrow explains more:

'For the past week we have been creating Diwali posters and models to sum up the work we have studied in class on the festival since Half Term.

Diwali is the festival of lights for Hindus and Sikhs and was established in 1577. Marking the end of the harvest season and the onset of winter, it is generally associated with the worship of Goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity. The festival also reminds us of the story of Rama and Sita, where goodness overcomes evil.'

Yasmin's teacher, Mrs Lynda Jackson added: 'I have been delighted with the work my two forms have produced. They have given up time outside lessons, had tremendous fun being creative and working together and they have definitely learnt a lot. I have also seen them using many skills they have learnt in Art and Design Technology to tremendous effect.'
