Team-Building In The Highlands

Archive Archive

Following the completion of his AS examinations last term, L6th pupil Alastair Grant chose a particularly gruelling but immensely impressive form of relaxation when far more leisurely pursuits were undoubtedly available.

Alastair headed for the Scottish Highlands with his father and a group of hardy walkers, which included another Bablake parent Jeremy Kenney-Herbert, to tackle the 7 Munros in the Lochaber Traverse. Starting the walk at 4.45am outside Spean Bridge, Alastair and his father reached the summit of Ben Nevis at 6.30pm and completed their descent to base by just after 9pm.

Their GPS recorded a walk of around 32km and an ascent of 3000m. It was a fantastic experience and one that involved much teamwork and determination. Alastair's father Evan admitted that he would have happily completed the walk after 5 Munros but Alastair's spirit had inspired him to continue the venture and defeat all 7 Munros!

(Photograph, with Alastair at the summit indicating the 7 Munros had been mastered, kindly submitted by Mr Evan Grant.)
