Former British Lion Drops Into Old Wheats Training Session

Archive Archive

Thanks to the connections of former pupil Nick Newbold, pre-season training at the Old Wheatleyans RFC this week saw former British Lion, England, Leicester and Newcastle rugby player Tim Stimpson work with the backs and carry out a kicking session, whilst former Coventry prop Rich Siveter put the forwards through their paces with a scrum and lineout workout.

Earlier this month, the club had the privilege of Team GB sprinter Craig Pickering repeating a very popular training session that took place for the first time last year. The session, held at Lyng Hall School, was also opened to Leamington Ladies 1st XI Hockey club.

Anyone wishing to play for the Old Wheatleyans this season or interested in the regular Tuesday and Thursday night training sessions, from 7pm at the Stade Wheats by Bablake's Astro pitches, will be most welcome. For more information, please email Old Wheats Vice Chairman Paul Wright.

All supporters are also very welcome for the club's 2nd season in Division 3 of the Midlands League which starts on Saturday 14th September. Pre-season friendlies begin on Saturday 17th August with an away fixture versus Old Coventrians.
