Reading Week Reflections

Senior School Curriculum

Reading Week 2015 once again gave departments and lower school pupils the freedom to step away from the curriculum for a few days and be intellectually curious.

Among the activities planned for the week, in their History lessons, Third year pupils presented case studies on the British Empire. After learning about these, pupils were then able to make a decision about how positive the impact of the empire was.

Our Modern Languages department tweeted about our Third year pupils enjoying 'Harry Potter' in German; the feed also showed Shell pupils eagerly working out in Spanish where would be better to go to school... Spain or the UK!

Deputy Head (Academic) Mr Alistair Hopkins reflected, as follows, on this year's Reading Week: ‘Pupils have once again risen to the challenge. These sorts of activities show that our pupils not only achieve their targets, but in many cases, exceed their own expectations.’

Tomorrow we will feature the Chemistry department that asked pupils to create 'pen portraits' of dynamic scientists.
