Sathvika's Arangetram Delights Everyone

Senior School Music

At the start of September, Fourth year Bablake pupil Sathvika Krishnan, who already has a Gold CREST award, performed her arangetram at the Bridge House Theatre in Warwick.

The arangetram - which means 'ascending the stage' - is a solo recital given by South Indian classical musicians when they are ready to progress to professional performance.

Sathvika's own performance was incredibly assured; she sang for around two and a half hours, without a break, performing a wide selection of ragas and styles, accompanied by an excellent group of professional musicians.

Many of her peers from Bablake attended, as well as several staff, and of course her friends and family from all over the world were also able to witness her excellent performance.

Guest of honour was Headmaster Mr John Watson, who delivered a speech about Sathvika's achievements, and the concert was also attended by Sathvika's guru (or teacher) and other notable Carnatic musicians.

Mrs Cathy Scott-Burt (Music and Head of Enrichment and Outreach) commented: "It was a wonderful evening, and amazing to hear such a high level of performance from a pupil only just beginning her GCSEs!"
