Reflective Remembrance Services

Senior School Community

Yesterday, we held respectful, reflective assemblies to mark Armistice Day.

Assistant Headmaster Mr Jim Burns, who led the assembly in our Theatre for Shell and Second year pupils, reflected on Remembrance Day and referred directly to the Tower of London's 2014 'Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red' installation. Trumpeter Charlotte Merry played 'The Last Post'.

Meanwhile in our Main Hall, Reverend Sacha Slavic, our Combined Cadet Force - represented by Mr Clive Mohamed (Biology) and Michael Brown, Iz Hemus and Will Rowland - and trumpeter Alex Hyde assisted Headmaster Mr John Watson with a moving, reflective service. This assembly was attended once again by a number of former pupils, some of whom had been evacuated to Lincoln from Coventry in WWII.

The Headmaster moved the focus of the service to remember not only those who died in battle, but those who survived. His own reflection on his father's experience of WWII and Reverend Slavic's recital of words from Auschwitz survivor Iby Knill added a poignancy appreciated respectfully by those present.
